Finally…it’s out!
The songs on it have been with me for quite a long time. Some of them were originally written with other artists in mind, and some go back nearly twenty years. Over the years I’ve written a lot of songs for other people as well as music for sync, so I’ve ended up with quite a collection of songs sitting on hard drives that never quite found a home.
Every now and then I’d come across one and think, “I still really like this.” Eventually I decided to go back through them and see what happened if I made them into my own record instead.
It’s turned into a more personal, singer-songwriter record than some of my earlier albums. There’s less of the programmed, poppy sound I’ve used in the past and more space for the songs themselves. The lyrics are personal too, and even though some songs were written for other people they were really written from the heart.
Michael Scherchen (who I’ve worked with for many years under the “Junebug” moniker) wrote the backing tracks and also mixed & mastered the album. My lovely hubby Miles Bould played drums on every track, and my great friend Scott Firth (collaborator on my “Stealing Time” album) played guitar on several songs.
It’s been a long time coming, but “Battlescars” is finally out in the world!
